Avoid seizure of assets by depositing money with us

Have you been ordered to pay a debt? In that case, you are obliged to pay immediately, even if you appeal against the judgement. You can avoid us collecting the debt if you pay (deposit) the amount corresponding to the debt with us.

What are the conditions for making a payment (deposit)?

You can only pay money to us if the judgement is still subject to appeal, before it has become legally binding.

You can deposit money in private claims. These are debts owed to businesses and private individuals, such as bank loans, credit card debts, personal loans or damages.

You cannot deposit money in public cases, such as fines, penalties, tax, customs duties, fees or other payments to the central government.

How do you do it?

  • You should email or post the judgement to us, along with your request to deposit money with us. If you wish to email us, please use our email form.
    Email us
If you wish to post your application, please send it to the office nearest to where you live:
    Kronofogden, Legal Section
Postal address to which you should send your application
Postcode and town to which you should send your application
If the judgement has been appealed, you must also submit a notice from the court regarding the appeal.
  • Once we have received your request to make a deposit, your case will be assigned a reference number. We will send you the reference number by email or post.
  • You will then have to pay. You can find the amount in the judgement. It may consist of
    • the amount awarded and legal costs
    • interest, which will be calculated up to and including the day on which the payment was received by us. Use our interest calculator to work out the total amount.
Calculate the interest on your debt (in Swedish)
Please note – interest continues to accrue after you have paid money into our account until the person to whom the money is due has received it.
    • costs incurred if the person to whom you owe money has already contacted us to seek payment. Costs may include, for example, our application fee. Find out more:

  • Please pay into bankgiro account 756-2036. You must provide the following information
    • Deposit UB 3:6
    • Reference number (for example, KFM XXXX-2025)
  • You must let us know if you would like us to pay the amount directly to the person to whom it is due. You should do this while the judgement is still subject to appeal, that is, before it becomes legally binding.

What do we do?

Once the judgement can no longer be appealed, we will decide to whom the money is to be paid. There are three different scenarios:

  • If we approve your request for a deposit, we will not collect the debt.
  • If the judgement has not been amended, we will pay the money to the other party.
  • If the court has ruled that you do not have to pay, we will refund the money to you instead.

We will send the decision by post to you and to the person to whom you owe money.

Are there other ways you can avoid having your assets seized?

You can also provide security to avoid seizure. You can do this

  • by way of a pledge, guarantee or business mortgage, and
  • if the District Court or the Administrative Court has ruled that you are liable to pay, and
  • if the decision has not been reviewed by a higher court (Court of Appeal or Administrative Court of Appeal).

If the Court of Appeal or the Administrative Court of Appeal has ruled on your obligation to pay, you can only provide security by pledging funds held with a bank or a credit company.

How do you pay a debt when the judgement cannot be appealed?

You cannot pay money to us (make a deposit) once the judgement is no longer subject to appeal (has become legally binding). Your obligation to pay has then been finally determined, and you can no longer avoid enforcement proceedings.

Once the judgement has become legally binding, you must either

  1. pay us – if the person you owe money has applied for our help in recovering the debt
    Pay the Swedish Enforcement Authority
  2. pay the person you owe money – provided there are no cases against you with us.
